James Atkinson (fitness expert)

Hi! I’m James Atkinson or ‘Jim’ as my mates know me.

I have been pushing my limits in different areas of health and fitness for well over twenty years. I have been skinny and unathletic, overweight and out of shape, a long distance runner, a ‘gym rat’, a competing bodybuilder, and went on to serve a number of years in the British army in an airborne unit (9 Parachute Squadron RE).

Today, I am a qualified fitness instructor and self-published fitness author with several books to my name.

At first glance, it may appear like I am one of those guys who are genetically gifted and has had a head start when it comes to achieving extreme fitness results, but, in fact, this could not be further from the truth. I developed my fitness ambition as a direct result of not being physically gifted.

If I were to start back at the beginning and I had my future self to guide me, I would save many years of mistakes, be able to spot the bad advice from the good, avoid the usual pitfalls, be able to start off with the right mindset and ultimately hit my fitness goals in a fraction of the time.

It is probably apparent from reading the above that my fitness achievements did not come to me easily. However, it is worth outlining the fact that perseverance was, and is, one of my strong points. I often stumbled along on my journey and even more often fell down completely, but I always got there in the end.

I would like to help you do the same as quickly and efficiently as possible!

If you have never hit a lofty fitness goal before, you will not be familiar with the wholesome feeling of achievement. Unfortunately, this feeling cannot be explained; it has to be earned and experienced first-hand.

The bodybuilding and fitness articles and routines that I have written and designed are a product of my personal experience and my fitness education. They are methods that are guaranteed to give you great fitness results. I have used and re-used these routines and plans both for myself and my clients and trainees. Everything you’ll find here are all based on solid advice with no gimmicks or hype.

Since fitness development is a deep passion of mine, I am always more than happy to answer any question and help you a bit more if I can. So grab a routine and let me help you get your results. I’ll see you on the inside!

Chris McDonald (nutritionist & editor)

Unlike Jim, I haven’t written any books… yet

I have, however, written a pile of content for other bloggers and webmasters, and like to keep up to date with the latest trends for web copy and SEO that works.

Aside from landing this glorious position at HOG, I freelance as an editor and a proofreader (if you notice any errors in my work it’s because the cat ate my homework).

My real passion is in nutrition, though, and am especially interested in the link between food and our mental states. Every day starts with me reading something on nutrition—my brain starts firing, and I feel like I’m on the right path. My goal is to qualify through the Institute for Optimum Nutrition (I’m just waiting until I save 5 figures in the fees!)

I used to be an accountant, which turned out as not being my cup of tea whatsoever, and I spent less and less time with my young family. As of August 2016, I ditched the 9-5 life and started working for myself from home. I’ve dabbled in a fair few things and landed on editing and proofreading; quite honestly, because I find it very easy and I can pretty much set my own schedule. I get to go to every school event that my boys have without asking for time off from a boss—this, to me, is winning at life!

I admire those who stick through the daily 9-5 grind, but it’s just not for me, and I work on the basis that if everyone else is doing something, then I should do something different.

Having said that, it seems like everyone is blogging, so what the hell am I doing?!

My wish, from your time here at HOG, is that you gain more knowledge than you did when you woke up, and have a chuckle along the way. Please do engage and interact with us and ask us any question you like!

If you’ve made it this far through my bio, I’m impressed, and you’ll be glad to know this is the end …

… actually, this is.
